Tribeca stands for "Triangle below Canal" and its name simply shows that the area is the sourthern Canal Street, and western Broadway. In the past, here were only repertories but the artists moved from Soho because of increasing house rent started using those repertories as their ateliers and this turned the area into the modern artistic area.
